Hello, we are just back from a fantastic self drive safari in the northern section of Tanzania.
Vehicle rental, accomodations and park permits were managed by us.
Our tour was 11 nights, Arusha/Tarangire/Manyara/Ngorongoro/Serengeti/Natron/Arusha.
The vehicle was a tough 5 seats Toyota LandCruiser, perfectly fit for offroad, with 200 lt tank, 40 lt water, radio. GPS system is highly recommended.
I even had to change a blown tyre in Serengeti, and thanks to the help of Mr. John, the manager, I received a spare tyre in 18 hrs.
Regarding accomodations, we decided not to rent camping equipment, but to stop at tented camps or lodges.
Bright Safari Cars staffs was always very friendly and helpful.
In conclusion, let me say that self drive safari in Tanzania may not be for non experienced. Main roards are good, but some shortcuts or circuits are very challenging. But if you are in search of a bit of adventure, go for it
I rented this land cruiser safari around march 2021 the car was perfect and had all what I was looking for with 4 doors, rooftop tent, inverter, cutlery and other bush assistance equipments
We did the classic route; lake manyara, ngorongoro , ndutu, seronera and tarangire for total number of 12days. We stayed at special camps at lake manyara and the rest in lodges. Serengeti roads were tough to drive through but the experience was amazing
We did a 17days overland trip through Tanzania from Lake Manyara, Eyasi, Serengeti all the way to Lake Victoria. We drove a 4.2L Diesel powered Land Cruiser safari with 5 seats the vehicle had all necessary equipments we needed though we stayed at lodges but the vehicle had necessary recovery tools including two spare tyres. The hardest part of the trip was navigating through Serengeti so many roads looked alike
